Our Keeper: Finding Peace in God's Protection

Our Keeper

I am not a theologian. However, there are moments in life when we find ourselves in valleys — not the scenic kind with flowing streams and wildflowers, but the valleys of struggle, uncertainty, and pain. These are the places where we feel vulnerable, exposed, and desperately in need of help. It’s in these moments that the words of Psalm 121 become more than just scripture. They become a lifeline for me. Maybe it will encourage you.

Looking Up When We’re Down

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1–2

King David, the author of this psalm, knew something about valleys. He was a ruler, a warrior, and a great leader. However, he was also human. He faced struggles that would break lesser men: running from King Saul, battling the Philistines, and even fleeing from his own children during times of civil war. Some scholars believe this Psalm was written during his conflict with his eldest son Absalom, a time when David found himself literally and figuratively in a valley.

This Psalm may have been written in time of war. But it can also be for those who are traveling. The people that are going from point A to point B. And they find themselves in between.

Have you ever found yourself in between?

Those long road trips where there’s no city lights in sight…the people who were going between cities…for the rail riders or those who for some reason walk the trails with the hills in them…

Let’s be honest, every situation in life is not a mountain top experience. Every situation is not

Cimatic
On top of the world
On cloud nine
Ecstatic
Elated
Overjoyed, or ever joyful.

Sometimes you find yourself in the valley.

Photo by Eric Ward on Unsplash

When David declared “I lift mine eyes towards the hills,” he was describing more than just a physical action, it was a spiritual action. That lifting up reminds me of prayer.

It’s lifting up in

Supplication
In faith
In hope
In boldness
Optimism
Confidence and assurance.
Photo by Nghia Le on Unsplash

Now here’s what’s important to understand: in David’s time, during war or when traveling on the road, the hills weren’t just any hills. He wasn’t looking at some random hillside, and he wasn’t looking to see if there were any other problems out there like we would do — you know how we look around saying

“If it’s not one thing, it’s another!”

He wasn’t scanning to see if enemies were hiding or lurking in the hillside.

David was looking at Mount Moriah, looking at Mount Zion — the place where the Ark of the Lord resided, the place where God’s presence dwelled. Because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

When David said his help came from the Lord, he was making a powerful declaration. His help didn’t come from money, not from status, not from influence or political connections. Is there anybody reading this who can testify? You may have all the resources in the world, but your real help… You may go through sometimes, but your help comes from the Lord.

Jonathan Nelson captures this beautifully in his song: “I’ve got evidence, I’ve got confidence, I’m a conquer, I know that I’ll win, I know who I am, God wrote it in his plan, For me, my name is VICTORY!”

When David said “lift up mine eyes,” he was essentially saying lift up your head — be ye lifted up, you everlasting doors! This is about positioning ourselves to receive help from the only true source.

The Reality of Our Valleys

Let’s be honest, not every moment in our Christian journey is a mountaintop experience. We don’t always feel on top of the world, cloud nine, or overwhelmingly joyful. Sometimes we find ourselves in valleys that feel all too familiar:

The valley of sadness or grief
The valley of sickness and physical struggle
The valley of resentment and bitterness
The valley of hopelessness and feeling helpless
The valley of returning to mundane responsibilities after a loss

These valleys aren’t random; they’re part of the human experience. David, being a soldier, understood that valleys are where the real battles happen. That’s where the strongholds are, where enemies gather, where obstacles seem insurmountable. In reading this this is what I’ve learned about it. There is a three fold protection.

Photo by Nik Shuliahin 💛💙 on Unsplash

Our Three-Fold Protection

1. The Lord Is Our Keeper

“The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.” — Psalm 121:5

The Hebrew word for “keeper” here is shamar, which means so much more than just keeping something safe. It means to guard, protect, observe, watch, and wait for. When God keeps us, He shamars us. In other words, he actively guards our every step.

Here’s the problem. We often want to be kept by other things: other people, family members, financial security, or social status. While these can provide temporary comfort, they cannot sustain us the way God can. Even our most spiritual family members, as anointed and wonderful as they may be, cannot truly keep us in the way our souls need to be kept.

God provides shade in the heat of our struggles. When we try to go outside His boundaries, outside His will and His way, we expose ourselves to the scorching heat of life’s trials. But in His keeping place, there’s shade — there’s peace, rest, and the cooling breeze of the Holy Spirit.

2. The Lord Is Our Preserver

“The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.” — Psalm 121:7

A few weeks ago while in Beaumont, my wife and I went to Pappadeaux to celebrate my birthday. And Pappadeaux can be expensive! Knowing this, we weren’t so quick to throw it all away. We took some to-go bags. We wanted to preserve it, or should I say, save it for later. When you pay for good food and you may not get to eat all of it. You put it away where I’m from it’s called “leftovers”. You want to enjoy it later, so you preserve it. You get it, put it in a bowl, close it, seal it, store it in the refrigerator. When you come back the next day, the taste is better, and the seasoning is better. Because it’s preserved and you paid for it.

Photo by Jeffery Erhunse on Unsplash

My Aunt Marion, my mom’s older sister, would put fruit in jars. I wondered why she did that

“Why did she put those good peaches in a jar and put them on a shelf in the garage?

I was told she did it to preserve them, to keep them from spoiling, to keep them from going bad.

This is what God does when you are in Him, when you are being kept by Him, secured by Him, preserved by Him. God preserves us from the contamination of evil, from toxic influences, from the elements that would spoil our souls.

This preservation includes:

Salvation and deliverance
Protection from the enemy’s attacks
A hedge of protection around our lives
Security in our eternal relationship with Him

As Jesus promised:

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37)

We are sealed, preserved, and protected by His love.

Photo by Sheldon Kennedy on Unsplash

3. The Lord Is Our Safeguard

“The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” — Psalm 121:8

I love my Aunt Marion — she’s awesome. I told you she had those peaches in a jar in the garage, and that garage door was locked. The only person who could get to them was her. She safeguarded them.

The Lord is our safeguard. So much so that the enemy has to ask permission to get to you. That’s your hedge of protection, that cleft in the rock where He hides you.

Personal Thoughts

Perhaps you’re reading this from your own valley right now. Maybe you’re dealing with:

Problems that seem overwhelming
Situations that feel impossible
People who have lied about you or mistreated you
Moments when you want to give up or give in
Struggles, sickness, setbacks, or troubles on every side

Here’s what I want you to know: He preserves you through it all. When you want to act foolishly, He preserves you. When others get on your nerves, He preserves you. In confusion, upset, and the desire to quit — He preserves you.

The Promise That Covers It All

The beauty of Psalm 121 is found in its comprehensive promise. God’s protection isn’t limited to certain areas of our lives or certain times of day. The psalm specifically mentions:

Protection from the sun by day and the moon by night
Preservation from all evil
Safeguarding of our souls
Protection of our going out and coming in
A promise that extends “from this time forth, and even for evermore”

This is total coverage. This is complete care. This is the kind of keeping, preserving, and safeguarding that only the Creator of heaven and earth can provide.

Lifting Our Eyes Today

When you find yourself in a valley, remember David’s example. Lift your eyes — not to search for more problems, but to look toward the source of your help. Lift them in:

Supplication and prayer
Faith and hope
Boldness and optimism
Confidence and assurance

Your help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He is:

Jehovah Jireh (your provider)
Jehovah Shalom (your peace)
El Elyon (the Most High)
The Alpha and Omega
Your keeper, preserver, and safeguard
Photo by Brett Jordan on Unsplash

A Closing Encouragement

No matter what valley you’re walking through today, you can lift your head with confidence. You are kept by the One who neither slumbers nor sleeps. You are preserved by the One who paid the ultimate price for your soul. You are safeguarded by the One whose love extends from this time forth and even forevermore.

Why? Because the Lord is your keeper, and His faithfulness endures forever. His mighty acts of preservation continue in your life every single day.

Talk to you later.

Navigating Life’s In-Between Seasons

We are in the full throes of summer, and this is the middle of the year. Fam, I have a question,

Have you ever been in between?
Do you enjoy change?

To be honest with you. I don’t. But there is nothing worse than being in between.

Photo by Mitya Ivanov on Unsplash

Some of us are in our in-between season:

In between homes
In between jobs
In between schools
And even relationships.

Sometimes, if not all the time. Being in between comes at the most inopportune time. We say to ourselves

I’m moving.
But I am not there yet.
I can’t go back, and I don’t know what’s ahead.

To be honest, I get uncertain, unsure, and uncomfortable. Here are a few suggestions.

Photo by Norbert Braun on Unsplash

Stay Focused on Your Purpose

As you travel through life, stay focused on your goal. Stay focused on your purpose. Remember why you are here. Remember who you are. There will be people who don’t have the same ideals as you. There will be people who do not share your motivation. As a matter of fact, there will be some who are there only to steal your dreams! These people can be distractions, distracting you from your goals and distracting you from your purpose.

Self-Distraction: Our Own Worst Enemy

There can be times when we distract ourselves! Yes, it might be a great idea, but analysis paralysis is a real thing (trust me, I know). Even worse, procrastination is a real thing too.

We would say something like:

I’ll do it next month
Next week
And then suddenly
Wow, it’s due tonight!

While in between, we can’t be distracted or be a distraction.

Photo by Stefan Cosma on Unsplash

How to Stay Focused

How can we not be distracted while being here? Here are a few suggestions on how to stay focused.

Meditate on your goals.
Think about them.
Write about them. (In a calendar or journal)
Internalize them.
Affirm them.
Practice them.

Make S.M.A.R.T Goals. They should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. It’s the small victories that will win the battle.

One more thing, believe in yourself even when no one else does. (That might be just for me. But I’m sharing anyway.)

I believe your day will come. Remember having focus is not passive but active. You can and will reach your goal!

Flying a Kite Isn’t Hard: Getting it off the Ground Is

Flying a Kite Isn’t Hard

On Easter Sunday afternoon, my youngest son and I relived a childhood memory or mine. We flew a kite. While attempting to get it off the ground. A fond memory resurfaced.

In the springtime when the wind was high. My Dad used to take my brother, my sister and I to the local Middle School field. The name of the school was E.B.Comstock Middle School.

He would take us to the Skaggs Alpha Beta or Tom Thumb to get a kite. I remembered how colorful the kites were. I remembered how excited we were.

Then it was time to take the field. Upon the multiple attempts we finally got them off the ground.

After a little time and effort. Joshua and I finally got it off the ground. It wasn’t until years later I realized how fun and challenging it is to fly a kite. Here’s a few things I’ve learned while flying a kite.

Flying a kite isn’t hard.
Getting it off the ground is.

Photo by Bill Fairs on Unsplash

Don’t do what everyone else is doing

When everyone else is running trying to get space and altitude. They tried throwing it up. But two things happened

  1. They got tired
  2. Their kite didn’t go as high

What we did was wait

We prepared for the right time. We waited for the right moment to let the kite fly itself.

Sometimes we look around and see everyone else:

Running
Always on the go
Always comparing themselves with others
Multitasking

They going places but their kite of life isn’t as high as it can be.

Why?

They were impatient. Sadly some give up, and put their kites down.

To try something else.
To do something else.
To go with the next trend.

In the end it was just my son and I. We were determined not to give up.

After a few minutes of coaching. After a few minutes of winding the line. After a few minutes of trial and error. The wind took our kite. Our kite was finally off the ground. All we needed was a little wind, and a little lift. Sometimes all you need to get your kite off the ground is a little wind, and a little lift.

That wind maybe a song.
Wind might be good friends and family.
Wind maybe the seeking out opportunities
Lift maybe encouragement.
Or even rest

Once the kite got going. I gave Joshua the reigns and I watched. I told him about when my Dad used to go and fly kites in the spring. We enjoyed that moment. I think he took a picture. Like a lot of our youth. They move on. After a while, it was just me enjoying the kite and my memories.

Dream Big, Write Bold: How Tonee B. Shelton is Empowering the Next Generation of Dreamers

In a world where children’s books can spark lifelong confidence and creativity, Tonee Shelton is creating literature that does exactly that. I had the pleasure of interviewing Tonee about her latest release, Dream Big: A Poem for Young Dreamers, is more than just a beautifully illustrated book — it’s a powerful manifesto for kids to believe in themselves, their visions, and their ability to shape the world.

But before the empowering verses and vibrant pages. I learned there was a little girl with a pen, a journal, and a big imagination.

A Born Storyteller

Tonee’s journey as a writer didn’t start with a publishing deal — it began in the quiet corners of childhood. As an only child, she leaned into her inner world, crafting stories, writing poetry, and journaling her thoughts. This daily habit of self-expression became the foundation of a future author’s voice.

“I was always writing something,” she shares. “Stories, poems, journal entries. Writing was — and still is — my favorite way to process the world.”

Her love for language led her to self-publish her first poetry collection, In Search of Freedom, in 2021. With each year that followed, she released another book, honing her voice and discovering her true purpose as a writer.

Photo by Chris Yang on Unsplash

A Mic and a Mission

2023 brought a transformative moment in her creative journey. After years of writing quietly, Tonee stepped onstage to perform spoken word poetry. The reaction was immediate and powerful — audience members resonated with her message, and many saw themselves in her words.

That experience lit a fire in her. She realized her writing could serve a bigger mission: empowering children to dream unapologetically.

That realization became the seed for Dream Big: A Poem for Young Dreamers — a lyrical ode to imagination, self-love, and the unshakable belief that anything is possible.

Photo by Aaron Burden on Unsplash

Why Literacy Is Power

For Tonee, storytelling isn’t just about creative expression — it’s about liberation.

“Reading is power,” she says. “Historically, literacy has been both a weapon of oppression and a tool of liberation. That’s why books, especially for young readers, matter so much.”

Through her work, she’s committed to giving children the tools to believe in themselves, to name their dreams, and to know their voices matter.

Photo by Muhd Asyraaf on Unsplash

No One Is Coming to Save You

Tonee’s other standout book, No One Is Coming to Save You, is a bold and timely message for readers of all ages: your dreams are your responsibility.

“There’s no blueprint, no magical rescue,” she says.
“If you want something, you have to put in the work. That’s the only way.”

It’s a mindset she’s adopted herself. From learning the ins and outs of self-publishing to studying marketing and brand-building, Tonee is playing the long game. Her dream? To one day see her books filling stadiums and classrooms around the world.

Photo by Sven Mieke on Unsplash

Tonee’s Blueprint for Dreaming Big

If you’ve ever felt stuck or unsure of your next step, Tonee offers this three-part framework:

1. Be Still

Turn off the noise. Silence your phone, your doubts, and the opinions of others. Tune in to your own inner wisdom.

2. Write It Down

Thoughts become things. Writing your dreams repeatedly makes them real and keeps them front-of-mind.

3. Block Out the Doubters

Dreams often look “crazy” until they come true. Keep going — even when others don’t see the vision.

Photo by Laura Fuhrman on Unsplash

Building a Legacy, One Page at a Time

Tonee Shelton is a reminder that dreaming big isn’t just for kids — it’s a lifelong pursuit. With each book she writes, she’s not only encouraging young readers to believe in themselves — she’s showing adults that it’s never too late to start.

So whether you’re six or sixty, let Tonee’s message sink in:

No one is coming to save you.
Your dream is your responsibility.
Write it down.
Show up daily.
And don’t stop until it’s real.

Black Comics, Afrofuturism & Rewriting the Narrative: King Cam x Theo B Are Building the Future

In a media landscape that often sidelines Black voices. I invited Theo B. Creators like him are pushing boundaries, flipping the script, and reimagining the future. Their recent conversation — featured in my podcast entitled, “King Cam’s Ujumbe Podcast” this special episode — is more than a dialogue. It’s a cultural moment.

I believe, this isn’t just about comics or science fiction — it’s about reclaiming power through storytelling.

Let’s break down the key themes that made this interview a must-watch for creatives, thinkers, and culture lovers alike.

Photo by Greg Rakozy on Unsplash

Afrofuturism: Black Futures Reimagined

Theo B wastes no time defining Afrofuturism not just as an aesthetic, but as a mindset. It’s where African culture, innovation, and speculative futures converge. Think technology, spirituality, and ancestral memory all fused into worlds where Black people don’t just survive — they thrive.

Afrofuturism challenges the historical erasure of Black identity in media by positioning Blackness at the center of imaginative futures. It asks: What does liberation look like when we are no longer reacting to oppression, but creating beyond it?

As Theo puts it:

“Afrofuturism gives us permission to dream without boundaries.”

Photo by Melyna Valle on Unsplash

The Legacy of Black Panther: More Than a Movie

The conversation naturally turns to Marvel’s Black Panther — a cultural juggernaut that opened the floodgates for Black-led, blockbuster storytelling.

King Cam reflects on what it meant to see Black royalty, brilliance, and technology on the big screen — with global resonance. But both he and Theo agree: the work isn’t done. Black Panther was a spark. Now it’s time to fan the flames.

“Wakanda was a wake-up call,” Theo says.
“Now we’re seeing what happens when the world realizes Black imagination has always been this rich.”

Photo by Judeus Samson on Unsplash

Independent Black Creators Are Leading the Charge

In a system where traditional comic publishers have often overlooked diverse voices, independent Black comic creators are doing what we’ve always done — building our own tables.

From digital webtoons to grassroots Kickstarters, Black indie creators are telling stories rooted in authenticity, power, and perspective. Comics like:

Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer by David Crownson
Excellence by Brandon Thomas and Khary Randolph
Nubia: Real One from L.L. McKinney
And countless others reclaiming the superhero narrative from a distinctly Black lens

Theo B emphasizes that these creators aren’t just filling a gap — they’re establishing a new standard.

“These books don’t ask for permission,” he says. “They speak truth and push culture forward.”

Photo by Shubham Dhage on Unsplash

Why Sci-Fi & Comics Are Essential to Identity Formation

Representation isn’t just about numbers — it’s about impact. When young Black kids see themselves reflected as inventors, warriors, and leaders in sci-fi and fantasy, something powerful happens: their idea of what’s possible expands.

Theo B shares how comic books gave him confidence as a kid — not just entertainment, but identity.

“They helped me see myself outside of the struggle,” he says.
“I saw heroes who looked like me saving the world, building civilizations. That matters.”

The genre allows for spiritual and cultural expression in ways traditional media often can’t. It’s where Afrofuturist worlds echo ancient African wisdom, and where storytelling becomes soul work.

Photo by Jeffery Erhunse on Unsplash

Black-led Platforms Are Cultural Lifelines

King Cam and Theo agree that platforms like “I Ain’t Saying, I’m Just Saying” are crucial. In a world driven by algorithms and gatekeeping, we need spaces that prioritize real conversations and cultural elevation. I then said

“These conversations aren’t just content — they’re legacy,”
“We’re documenting the movement as it happens.”

Independent Black platforms are not only amplifying marginalized voices — they’re preserving cultural memory, sparking collaboration, and mentoring the next generation.

Photo by Mayukh Karmakar on Unsplash

Black Comic Book Versus Battle — Culture Meets Fun

In a lighter, yet equally meaningful segment, the duo face off in a “Black Comic Book Versus Battle.” Think Luke Cage vs Static Shock. Nubia vs Misty Knight. The playful exchange showcases how deep and varied Black comic history really is.

Not only is it fun, it underscores a powerful point: we have options now. Characters, stories, and heroes that reflect our many dimensions — and we’re just getting started.

Final Thoughts: The Future is Being Written

In the end, we left listeners with a clear message:

If we want a future that reflects us, we have to create it ourselves.

Support Black storytellers. Buy indie comics. Amplify Black media. Teach your kids that they can not only be heroes — they can write them too.

This episode is more than a cultural breakdown — it’s a blueprint for creative liberation. Theo says.

“We’re not waiting for permission,”
“We’re telling our stories, our way — and the world is listening.”

Watch the full conversation on “King Cam’s Ujumbe Podcast

This is just the beginning. The future of Black storytelling is bright — and it looks like us.

Awareness is Evolution

In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, the power of awareness can be the key to personal transformation. A few weeks ago I hosted a conversation with author and educator Kali J. Banks has dedicated over 20 years to teaching emotional intelligence and self-awareness, and his book Awareness is Evolution offers a roadmap to expanding consciousness and unlocking deeper understanding of oneself.

Photo by jose aljovin on Unsplash

The Birth of a Transformational Book

KJ Banks’ journey into writing began with a simple yet profound realization: awareness is the foundation of personal growth. Over the years, he collected insights, experiences, and reflections, eventually shaping them into a book that encourages readers to see beyond their conditioned perceptions. Awareness is Evolution isn’t just a book — it’s an invitation to shift perspectives and break free from mental limitations.

Photo by Arun Prakash on Unsplash

The Power of Emotional Intelligence

One of the core principles Banks emphasizes is emotional intelligence. He explains that many people identify too closely with their emotions, allowing thoughts and feelings to dictate their state of being. By cultivating awareness, individuals can develop empathy, improve self-regulation, and enhance social skills. Instead of reacting impulsively, they learn to observe their emotions, understand triggers, and navigate life with greater clarity and intention.

Photo by Anisetus Palma on Unsplash

Awareness: The Key to Liberation

Banks delves into the concept of consciousness, explaining that true awareness is more than just thinking or feeling — it’s the ability to observe those thoughts and feelings without attachment. Many people suffer because they believe they are their emotions. However, when one becomes aware of their emotions without being controlled by them, they gain the power to respond rather than react. Awareness, he suggests, is the ultimate path to self-liberation.

Photo by Aaron Burden on Unsplash

The Writing Process & Evolution of Thought

As an author, Banks took years to refine his message, compiling notes, experiences, and research to create a cohesive guide to personal growth. His second book, Awakening to Love, builds upon these ideas, focusing on self-realization and breaking free from societal conditioning. Through his writing, he encourages readers to transcend lower instincts and cultivate higher states of consciousness.

Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing

Choosing self-publishing allowed Banks to share his message with the world more quickly, without the constraints of traditional publishing. However, he remains open to traditional routes in the future, as reaching a broader audience is his ultimate goal. For him, writing isn’t about fame or recognition — it’s about being a vessel for knowledge and helping others evolve through awareness.

Photo by Melissa Askew on Unsplash

Applying Awareness in Everyday Life

Banks underscores that awareness is not merely about acquiring knowledge but applying it in daily life. True understanding comes from integrating these insights, shifting perspectives, and taking intentional actions. Awareness fosters self-empowerment, allowing individuals to break free from limitations and embrace their true potential.

Where to Find the Book

For those eager to explore the depths of awareness, Awareness is Evolution is available in multiple formats, including audiobook, softcover, and ebook. Readers can find it on Amazon, BookBaby, or directly on kalijbanks.com.

Photo by MARK ADRIANE on Unsplash

Final Message: Love Yourself Unconditionally

At the heart of Banks’ philosophy is a simple yet profound message: love yourself fully and unconditionally. Self-love is the greatest tribute one can pay to oneself, and through awareness, individuals can cultivate a deeper connection with their true essence.

By embracing awareness, we step into a life of greater clarity, freedom, and fulfillment. If you’re ready to shift your perspective and elevate your consciousness, Awareness is Evolution is the book that will transform the way you see reality.

Where was David?

Photo by Spencer DeMera on Unsplash

What’s your Location?

When reading the Bible, there are things that arrest my attention. In the story of King David. We tend to emphasize King David of Judah. Instead of David son of Jessie. So when reading Psalms 23, I learn about where David was when he pend these poetic lines.

Photo by Alex Perez on Unsplash

David’s Physical Location

The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want… (Psalms 23:1)

The 23rd Psalm is a familiar passage of scripture. A series of verses that everyone everywhere knows. It opens with this proclamation:

“The Lord is my Sheperd”

In reading this I learned where David was when he wrote this. See a lot of people believe. He was still a young man out in his father’s backyard. Tending to the sheep. Others think he wrote this verse in the palace. As an old man, reminiscing about his life. However, scholars believe David wrote this while he was on the outskirts.

Outside of his palace
Outside of his place of comfort
Outside of Jerusalem
Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash

When he wrote this telling the reader about God’s goodness, his grace, and mercy. David wrote this out in the Judean hills. This was David Son of Jessie’s physical location.

The question is why

Why is the Judean Hills his physical location?

It was because he was on the run, again.

He’s not running from King Saul.
He’s not running from Goliath’s family the Philistines

He’s running from his son Absalom. His eldest son. He still said “The Lord is my Shephard”

My problem with this location

I love this verse. But I have a problem with this verse. I’ll be honest, I like to declare the Lord is my Shepard. While at the same time, trying to be the lord of the Shepard. (I guess it’s just me)

Here’s the good news. This is what I’ve learned!

Even though I am struggling.
Even though I am outside of my comfort zone.

Like David, I can say “The Lord is my Shepard.” This was David’s Physical location. Being in the Lord.

David’s Mental Location

In reading this I also learned about David’s mental location. In other words, we find out where his mind was when he wrote this. The first thing he said is

The Lord is my Shepard

The Lord was on his mind. In this verse, I learned that no matter what’s going on. No matter what’s happening. The Lord should be on my mind.

He also made it personal by saying

The Lord is MY Shepard

For my English scholars, the word “My” is a possessive adjective. In other words, when I say “My” it belongs to me. David may have lost everything.

May have lost his castle
May have lost his money
May have lost his prestigue

In so many words, I may not have anything. But one thing I have is the Lord.

Conclusion

Be encouraged, you are not lost. You may find yourself in various places and circumstances. I know it will get better. Just believe it. Talk to you later.
