This is My Story: What’s yours

Everybody has a story. A story to tell, a story to hear, but most importantly a story to live. My story maybe similar to others, and it is also different. Why? Because it is my story. What is my story? I could start as a young man who lived in Dallas or as an educator who left corporate America to begin his journey as a teacher.

It Begins

I lived in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood of Dallas. I attended Skyline High School, and played in the marching band. But there’s more to it. As a youth, I was fascinated with history. I loved to read. I would go to my maternal grandmother’s house in Arkansas and I would sit by her looking through the volumes of black and white photo albums. I would ask her “Who’s this person? What are they doing?” She then would tell me MY STORY. In doing this, it fostered a life of learning and a thirst for knowledge.

Study

I would then read, and study African History. My Uncle told me about Egyptian history, and it flooded my fascination. Because living in Dallas in the 90s you rarely hear this sort of information. So I would grab any book I could find. My parents would buy books such as “Tutankhamun and His Friends.” Which was an amazing book. In time I would aspire to become a history teacher. My love for history started with the love of my family history. I would then set my sights on becoming a teacher.

This is the beginning of a lifelong journey of love and learning. This is the beginning of my story. What’s yours?

Thanks for coming.
