Forsaking all Others

On August 3rd, 2024 my wife and I celebrated 22 years of marriage. We’ve had our ups and downs. In times like this it allows me the time to reflect on our wedding vows. One of which is
Forsaking all others…
Let’s talk about it.

Forsake for Love
It’s true, we have friends, and we have family. However, there will be a time we have to forsake them for the one we love the most. Agreeably it will be easy to forsake those who are
Toxic
Full of drama
Issues
Problems
It’s easy to forsake them. But what about those who wish you well. In my journey, I had to learn to
Love my friends
Love my family
There are times when they mean well. They may have wonderful advice. Or that advice may not fit my situation. As for my spouse, for us to build our relationship. I had to forsake them for love. Better yet, forsake them for the love of my life.

Forsake them for Life
I am not saying for life or forever. I am saying forsake them for your life. The new life you began. It’s a new chapter. Great and wonderful things will come. I had to learn that I had to forsake them all for the new life that I was leading.
Over the years I had to forsake something to make our lives better. I had to forgo an opportunity or my attention on a project. So my focus on her didn’t falter.
Did I come up short?
At times yes, but I was glad she was there to kindly remind me of my priorities in life. This resulted in a stronger and more loving relationship between us.
I’ll be honest you can’t make a new life stuck in the old one. Eventually, I had to leave my family’s house physically and emotionally and build my own. I know it’s hard trust me. But the sooner, the better.

Conclusion
Love is a journey. Being married is a journey. Most of all being married to the one you love the most makes it all worth it.
